Learn About Our Virtual Mashriqu’l-Adhkár

Tuesdays, we learn about the Virtual Mashriqu’l-Adhkár, tour the website, and introduce ourselves.

“In the Name of God, the Forgiver! Although this evil state in which I am, O my God, maketh me deserving of Thy wrath and punishment, Thy good-pleasure and Thy bounties demand Thy forgiveness to encompass Thy servants and Thy good favour to reach them. I ask  of Thee by Thy Name which Thou hast made the King of all names to protect me by Thy power and Thine Omnipotence from all calamity and all that is repugnant to Thee and all that is contrary to Thy Will. Thou art Supreme over all things."

Translation by H. M.Balyuzi. H.M. Balyuzi, “Bahá’u’lláh -- The King of Glory” "

FROM JAMES WILLIAMS:

Baha'u'llah revealed the prayer above at His time in the ‘Ákká Prison. At that time, life was indeed very hard in the barracks of ‘Ákká particularly when the exiles fell victim to maladies such as malaria and dysentery (intestine infectious disease) that the autumn brought in its wake.

Three of exiles died because of diseases. Áqá Abu’l-Qasim-i-Sultanabadi was the first to go, and then Ustad Baqir and his brother Ustad Isma‘il-i-Khayyat who died the same night, in the words of Baha’u’llah, ‘locked in each other’s arms’. Áqá Husayn-i-Ashchi (Bahá’u’lláh’s Chef) recorded a powerful prayer revealed by Bahá'u'lláh subsequent to the death of three companions, which the exiles recited for their protection. Below is the text of this prayer. After reciting this prayer although illness was still rife, there were no more fatalities.

This prayer is indeed powerful and would protect friends in these days of Coronavirus outbreak.

“The Mashriqu’l-Adhkár is the dawning-place of lights and the gathering place of the righteous. Whenever a company of noble souls assemble in a heavenly gathering there and offer supplications, intone divine verses, and chant prayers with wondrous melodies, the inmates of the Concourse on high hearken and call out, crying, “Happy are we; let all the world rejoice!” for, praise be unto God, souls from among the angels of the Kingdom of Glory have arisen in the nether world to commune with their Lord and intone the verses of Divine Unity in a gathering of holiness. What bounty is there greater than this?” '

‘Abdu’l-Bahá “Do not call it a meeting. Call it a confluence of holy souls; a convocation of those who love the Lord; a retreat for the people of the All-Merciful; a palace-hall for all who sing His praise. For the members of that gathering are each one a lighted taper, and that council a mansion of the moon and stars.”

The Tablet of Visitation

A Gift from James Williams

Please accept this “gift”, a melody that, in the 90’s, arose like a fragrance from Abdu’l-Baha’s Tablet of Visitation. It is my first and probably my last contribution of this kind. It is composed by  Gwendolyn Watson, a well-known cellist,  who played at the dedication of Bab's Terraces.

AN ESSAY FROM JAMES WILLIAMS

ADDRESSING THE QUESTIONS OF A JEWISH PHYSICIAN

I promised the friends that this will be posted on the website to assist them in teaching. It shows many things about the Faith in one file, its Beauty, its Truth, its Order and thus its MEANING in a chaotic world. Place it in its most appropriate place. Thank you.

THE ESSAY’S CONTENTS

This photo essay was originally compiled to address the questions of a Jewish physician. Please understand that they are only ‘examples’ of how the inner beauty, purpose and meaning of the Bahá’í Faith – the "world's youngest religion", as some call it – are being ‘outwardly’ expressed in both familiar and unique ways within human society. Some photos capture the fulfillment of certain Judaic and Christian prophecies. The Bahá’í Faith is the most extensively documented religion in the world. And according to Christian scholars, it is already its most wide-spread religion, after Christianity.

These photos represent 9 areas of general interest:

The significance of Mount Carmel in the continuum of ‘revealed’ religions and the fulfillment of prophecy

  1. The beauty of the Bahá’í World Center (mostly underground)
  2. Examples of Bahá’í Houses of Worship
  3. Who is the Báb (pronounced bob)? (the Shrine of Bahá’u’lláh (trans. the glory of God), the Prophet-Founder of the Faith, is not depicted)
  4. The Bahá’í Administrative System
  5. Who are Bahá’ís? What do we look like?
  6. Examples of what Bahá’ís ‘do’ in the world
  7. Examples of Bahá’í influence in human society
  8. Examples of appreciations written by acknowledged scholars

James William's Eleven Year Virtual Prayer Call Founder's Message

Welcome to our virtual House of Worship where we strive to make our hearts pleasing and acceptable to God. For many years it has had a healing and bonding influence upon many lives. Its organic growth and expansion, its gradually unfolding spiritual purpose, its resulting community of attendees can only mean that it was constructed and still being sustained by the mysterious forces released by Bahá’u’lláh, the Lord of humanity.

Who can describe this beauty? What musical instruments can attain the heights of yearning souls in prayer, thus only the human voice is heard within the sanctuary? Each attendee has his or her own personal testimony and perceptions. And, like miracles, they are meant only for the minds and hearts that experience them. So be assured that this servant well-knows that our union with the Holy Spirit and its sustaining, endless bounties is far beyond his ability to describe.

What truly seeking mind can remain unaffected by the outpouring of grace and mercy experienced here each morning? Why do so many attendees say, “This is my lifeline”? Why did one, amidst her tears, describe it as “my reward”? Who knows? “The Spirit breathing through the Holy Scriptures is food for all who hunger”.[1] Thus, everyone has its own unique relationship with the Holy Spirit.  Surely this House is a spiritual refuge, a haven of love and spiritual bounties, a fortress of certitude against the prevailing winds of religious superstition and the godlessness of materialism.

You are reading this servant’s account of not only its humble beginnings but also personal perceptions pertaining to why it has continued through the present month of May 2020. His attempts to describe this Place find their ultimate expression in the question, “O Bahá’u’lláh, what hast Thou done?” [2] [3]

[3] Future minds should know that this is being written while a virus contagion envelopes Earth.

The Universal House of Justice is encouraging Bahá’is worldwide, especially those who have adequate electronic means, to undertake the necessity of community devotions. It is hoped that this Place has encouraged others to replicate it.
