"Fasting is of two kinds -- spiritual and material.
The spiritual fasting comes first, and is the soul's refusal or denial of all kinds of evil actions and habits -- this is the important fasting. The bodily fasting or abstinence from food, is a sign or witness to the inward fasting, and is of no value by itself. But when both kinds of fasting go together, then the effect upon the soul is as "light upon light.”

FHU HOSPITALITY TEAM: JAMES WILLIAMS, CARMEN BROWN, AND CHARLIE SMITH
NEW TO THE SPACE? Tuesday is a JOINT ORIENTATION DAY when James Williams, the founder of the daily prayer space, that precedes our discussions here, can introduce you to the group AND share a few passages from the Mashriqul-'Adhkar.
Before Foundation Hall University (FHU) was created, prayers were happening for eleven years. This educational space with focused study has only existed since December 2019 and this website only since April.
On Tuesdays, James will properly welcome you into the space, explain our vision, have newcomers share information about themselves, and have ample time to build community and relationships. In addition, he will share the vision of the prayer call, as not only a time for prayer, but as an Mashri'qu'l-Adhkar, the "Dawning place of the Praise of God".
If you are new to the space, please peruse this website and ask Carmen Brown OR Charlie Smith on Tuesday any questions that you may have about our schedule, topics, rules, and terminology. We have scheduled programming on all other days and there is not enough time to orient anyone to the space and answer your questions on any other day.
"The advent of the prophets and the revelation of the Holy Books is intended to create love between souls and friendship between the inhabitants of the earth. Real love is impossible unless one turn his face towards God and be attracted to His Beauty."
(Abdu'l-Baha, Baha'i World Faith - Abdu'l-Baha Section, p. 364)
This is a space where we build relationships based on honesty, truth, and commitment to the most vital and challenging issue and work together for the eradication of racism in our hearts, minds, families, communities, country, and the world.
We use certain terminology here for shorthand purposes. While everyone is welcome seven days a week, different days are set-aside for people of African descent and those who are not to learn/listen/ or speak. We have POTE only days, SOTE only days, and four joint days during the week. We have programming here seven days a week.
POTE = Pupil of the Eye
SOTE = Sclera of the Eye
